The world largest private LEGO collection is located in one of historical buildings in a city centre of Prague. What a jewel we have here in Prague ! :-)
I had a one day off so I decided to explore the LEGO collection in the museum. The building where all the bricks are kept looks at first glance as any other building in the Prague old town, except for one thing. The yellow LEGO sign above the front door which informs people that this is not an ordinary house but there is something very interesting and rare to see inside. :-)

And guess what was the reason why the owner Milos Krecek decided to establish his private LEGO museum ? Well, totally practical one. :-) The challenge that every LEGO collector is destined to face one day as his or her collection widens...

Milos Krecek had so many LEGO sets at home that he couldn't even move ! And he also knew that it would be shame to keep such an amazing collection locked behind his doors only for himself. So he started to work on the project of private LEGO museum in Prague.

You know, collecting LEGO is not an easy hobby. You need a lot of money, a lot of space and also you cannot store your LEGO anywhere. LEGO hates dust, humidity, smoke or even direct light. Read about how to ideally store LEGO in my recent post How do you store your LEGO collection ?.

I like the way the collection is organised in the museum. It is sorted thematically so that there is section dedicated to LEGO Technic fans, LEGO Pirate fans, LEGO Modular fans, LEGO Castles fans, etc.

There are also many LEGO living legends such as the biggest set ever released by LEGO - Taj Mahal or Grand Carousel.

There is also a quite big collection of older LEGO sets.

First thing you see when you walk into the museum is a large LEGO city display.

When you look closer into the LEGO City display you see details such as police stations, airport, railway station but also a quad bike rental or basketball stadium.

It also includes other things which are necessary for every bigger city.

There are also LEGO replicas of iconic Prague historical architectural buildings, such as the famous Charles Bridge made out of LEGO. Five meters long model with 1,000 minifigures.

or building of the Prague National Museum that is a two metres wide model made out of 100,000 bricks.

On the surface of 340 sq. m. you can see more than 2,500 models divided into 20 different theme parts. More than 1,000,000 bricks. :-)

I think that this is one of very nice places to visit for every LEGO fan who lives in Prague or comes to Prague for sightseeing.

Full entrance fee for adults is 200 CZK (7.40 EUR or 7.80 USD) and the museum is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.. The LEGO store in the ground floor is also open daily and you can buy there various LEGO sets, minifigures or bricks, including famous old sets such as the Taj Mahal. :-)

More information is available on official website of the Prague LEGO Museum.
