Set 10255 - Assembly Square - BUY or PASS ?
It isn't everyday when LEGO theme turns 10 years, is it ? :) And Modular Building theme is not just any LEGO theme. We all expect great things from LEGO designers when it comes to Modulars ...
And when it comes to the 10th anniversary, expectations are even bigger ! :)
I was very surprised when I saw first pictures of the 2017 Modular set. Assembly Square was something that I didn't expect to happen.
Will I buy it or pass it ? Let's ask Miss BUY and Miss PASS and listen to their arguments. :)
Miss BUY :
Have you already seen the new 2017 Modular ?
Miss PASS :
Of course, I did. Everywhere I go, I hear people talking about it. It's driving me nuts !
Miss BUY :
And isn't it awesome that so many people talk about their feelings about the new set ? The immediate reaction of those people is so interesting ... Anyway, it is something you will probably never understand. So tell me, what's wrong with the set this time ? I'm listening...
Miss PASS :
I bought all the previous Modulars. I built all the previous Modulars. I don't wanna build it once again. I wanted something new. Did they run out of ideas so they replicated all the previous sets into one mess instead of coming up with something new ?
Miss BUY :
Actually the inspiration taken from existing Modulars is something that assembles all existing sets together ... In my opinion, Assembly Square was a perfect fit for a celebration set. I think that especially the experienced builders, as you are, will enjoy the build because they will be able to find all the references to previous sets.
Miss PASS :
Well, it might be fun to hunt for all the references ... But anyway, it's not the only thing that is bothering me. It's a mess and it just looks so crowded.
Miss BUY :
Yes, feels a little cramped to me too, but I appreciate how much action they put into this set. Maybe you didn't know that such a small and crowded squares are not fictional, they are typical for old European cities. And don't forget this is an anniversary set, so LEGO wanted to give us as much as possible. :)
Miss PASS :
I would have preferred a single beautiful building. Or at most two buildings would work well. But three ? The buildings now look so small.
Miss BUY :
It could have been bigger. But I really like all the small businesses which wouldn't be possible in a one single building - dentist, bakery, cafe, florist, music store, ... A lot of new building possibilities. A lot of fun.
Miss PASS :
There is no doubt that there are some awesome aspects in this set. I'm just trying to say that I like the set, but I didn't fall in love with it. I will pass this one. And you ?
Miss BUY :
Maybe not my preferred set ever, but it's wonderful and day one purchase for me!
Who was more compelling ? :) For me it was definitely Miss BUY. Assembly Square is in many ways exceptional set and I can't wait to have it at home and start discovering its hidden secrets.
What is the one thing you like the most on this set ? And what is the one thing you would change if you had a chance ? :)
I will be very happy if you comment below.

Write komentářůI'll admit I wasn't blown away by it at first, but it did grow on me. My brother and I have a LEGO town built around Modulars, so there was never a chance we wouldn't get this on day one.
ReplyPerfect fit for your LEGO town ! :-) I saw some photoshop pictures of Assembly Square sticked to existing Modulars on Eurobricks forum and it looks very well.
ReplyChange the minifig with blonde hair and imagine its you
Reply:-) Yes, exactly. My favourite Minifig, the female LEGO fan. :-)
ReplyYes, the LEGO Fan and nostalgic mini builds of previous sets is a great feature
ReplyThat´s what I like the most about this set - the reference to previous modulars. At least I will have them all in mini size when not as normal sets. ;-)
ReplyOne of the Misses mentioned that the buildings are just too small. But that's something I love about these, small and still so beautiful! And the shops there? Some business are so small that they can't afford any larger areas 😉
ReplyThis modular definitely must come into my city and it'll be inspiring for my own creations.
I love your point of view, Tom ! :-) Not every retailed can afford to rent the whole floor. In addition, these buildings are located on the square, where the rent is certainly higher that in any quieter street. :-)
ReplySo I couldn't stand the pressure any more and had to get my Assembly Square set. I'd say that it's leaving me speechless, looking at it... I must say that it's a masterpiece of design. So many wonderful details and great technical solutions. When we've built the ground floor, I remember me saying that the front of the Sweet shop is the most beautiful thing I've ever built from Lego.
ReplyI'm so full of feelings now!
Great day with my family too...
I definitely want to buy this great anniversary set some day. But I'm not in a hurry just yet, and can afford to wait for a good free-gift promo or double VIP promo to combine with buying this set. :-)
ReplyI'm so happy to hear that you have enjoyed the build so far. So did I ! :-) The ground floor of the Sweet shop is one of my favourites too. I think that you might also like the LEGO fan apartment in the upper floor because there are really cool details (multifunctional couch or LEGO train display). I'm looking forward to hear about your feelings from remaining floors. :-)
