LEGO on Spielwarenmesse 2017 - trip that surpassed my expectations !

February 06, 2017 2 Comments A+ a-

What was the Spielwarenmesse 2017 like and what did LEGO unveil and showed in their huge booth this year?
I returned back home from this amazing trip yesterday night, full of emotions and I will recollect as much as I can from my memory for you as I promised to in my early January post about this event - Spielwarenmesse is coming soon ! :-) Also, I met, completely by chance, a very big fan of LEGO in a restaurant where we were staying for a night and he showed us and then also sold us something unbelievable ! :-)
But let's start from the very beginning ...
Spielwarenmesse 2017
On Friday evening we got into the car with my boyfriend and headed towards Germany. We were staying in a local Bavarian guesthouse in Pommelsbrunn near Nurnberg and while we were sitting in a pub on Friday evening we have met Klaus, a big fan of LEGO who invited us to his house just next to the pub to show us his impressive collection of different LEGO sets, mostly very old and rare ones, but also his own builds. The roof of his house was full of old LEGO modular buildings, LEGO Technic, LEGO architecture, ... there were even the jewels such as the LEGO Taj Mahal or LEGO Carousel quietly sitting on the old wooden table in the middle of the roof. We couldn't believe our eyes ! That was something !
Spielwarenmesse 2017
Klaus was getting ready to sell part of his collection due to lack of space in his house so he offered us to buy a few really cool sets if we were interested. So we were !
We came back to our apartment quite late with 5 very old and rare sets and 2 Klaus's own creations.
Well, that was a very nice start of our trip! :-)

After breakfast on Saturday morning we jumped into the car and went to Nurnberg on Spielwarenmesse. Doors opened in 9.00 a.m. and we went straight to the hall 12.2 to register for a guided tour in LEGO booth as you cannot walk independently in the LEGO booth and the guided tour is the only option to get in.
Spielwarenmesse 2017
We were in a group of 8 people with the Danish, Russians and Colombians as there are people coming to the toy fair from different parts of the world. Our guide Ben took us through the booth stopping for a while at each LEGO theme to introduce us the news for 2017.
Spielwarenmesse 2017
We started in the LEGO City section where we saw some of the new LEGO City Jungle sets full of colours and wild animals with my utmost favourite being a moving crocodile. :-) Then we had a chance to see the famous Guggenheim Museum LEGO Architecture set or the 42070 LEGO Terrain Truck Technic set with a teddy bear on the front being a very nice detail. It was about The LEGO Batman Movie a lot this year. LEGO revealed four new sets inspired by the LEGO Batman Movie there, one of them being The Batwing which I guess could become the flagship set of the whole theme.
Spielwarenmesse 2017
However, what impressed me the most was the brand new theme LEGO Boost, particularly the cat ! This new theme is going to bring a lot of new ! Also a lot of fun. The cat is incredible. With a bit of fantasy it is like a real cat. :-) It is an emotional being that can express happiness or sadness, it is able to recognise what it eats or it can even purr. Day one purchase for me ! I'm not at all surprised that LEGO Boost won the Toy Award 2017 in a SchoolKids (6-10 years) category.
Spielwarenmesse 2017
LEGO also showed us very cool LEGO Nexo Knights sets planned for release in 2017. I didn't know that there is such a cool story behind this theme which links all the released sets together. That is amazing and I appreciate a lot that LEGO creates also its own content and do not only rely on licensed themes. There was also a corner devoted to the Superheroes or Star Wars sets with the new Mighty Micros or Brick Headz figures in the front. I should also mention a few LEGO Elves or Friends sets which took my eye mainly because of a nice winter sceneries full of action.

We spent approx. 40 minutes inside for which I was very happy even though I would not mind to be there a whole day. :-)
Spielwarenmesse 2017
I will definitely come to visit LEGO on Spielwarenmesse next year too because it was an unbelievable experience which surpassed my expectations !

I will definitely come back to Klaus and the sets he kindly sold us very soon in one of my upcoming posts. :-)

I will be very happy if you let me know what do you think about new LEGO 2017 releases in comments bellow.

Very cool! Were you able to get in because of your blog? Or just because you like LEGO and registered?
What luck to meet a LEGO fan who needs to sell part of his collection!

Everyone who buys the ticket for the event had a chance to get in the LEGO booth this year. However you need to come asap to the LEGO reception and register for the tour because the number of tours and the number of people in each tour are both limited.
Yes, that was a pleasure for us to meet Klaus and have a chance to look closer to his LEGO collection. It doesn't happen every day that you meet someone with such treasures at home who is willing to sell you part of that for a reasonable price.
